Had a wonderful evening's fishing on your lovely river. In fact we were travelling from Devon to Scotland to fish and just had to fish the Eden; one of our 'must fish before we die' rivers.
It provided the best fishing of the whole trip, Scotland was disappointing. Anyway, the trout was weighed in a 'weigh net' at 1.6 kilos, kept in the water at all times and returned. It measured 18.5 inches (only), it was a male fish, very broad and in splendid condition. I've had trout up to 19.5" from the Usk, but I think this fish was heavier. It was rising against the far bank, a delicate rise that belied the size of the trout and I took him on a #18 midge emerger.
I had 2 more fish in quick succession from the same lie, they were both over 2 lbs, it was an extraordinary half an hour, the battle with the first and largest fish did not put the others down at all. In all I had 6 fish in a 3 hour evening session having struggled throughout the day. If this is representative of the stamp of fish the Eden can produce, we will be back again, for sure.
