After days of boiling and bright weather, some rain was on the cards and rain there was! Although the amount of rain was not enough to raise the water level massively, myself and Stephen Huck had a very satisfying day. After mixed hatches of fly, eventually the "Doctor" had hooked into a fantastic grayling weighing a smidge under 2lb (see picture). Even though the grayling was out of season (16th July -16th March), it was in great condition and returned quickly and safely. Sometimes you just don't know what you are going to hook into on this fantastic water we have!
After this great fish we moved upstream. I noticed some small BWO trapped in the foam lines being taken by a rising fish. With one well presented cast a fish was on. At first the fish seemed to be a lot bigger than the 2lb 4oz from the fight it put up. Eventually it was brought to the net, unhooked, a quick photo and then returned safely.
Another great day on the river a "grayling virgin" broken.
All the best and tight lines.
