A hot day was forecast and as I like to take advantage of day fishing drove up to Cow Green reservoir. Windy, overcast moving to gale force at times! Hard going and remote (take a friend with you if you have not tried this acclaimed wild brownie still water). Still managed to return 3 nice trout, the largest being about a 1 lb.
Gave up trying to cast in the wind after 3 hours and returned via Alston and a fish and chip supper before heading to Musgrave for an hour at 9pm.
Waited and waited for the evening rise until 10.30pm but only a few fish rose and most were small 6-8 inches. Buzzed again by small and larger bats upstream of the bridge.
Whilst I have fished the Eden for the last 12 years every season seems to be different and maybe a few reports from local anglers can aid the occasional fisherman who travels specifically to fish the Eden.
