Fished for the first time this season on Tuesday (2nd). Saw and met more fellow anglers than ever before on the river, (admittedly at Musgrave).
The weather was super with a few LDO's around and plenty of large stonefly on the banks.
Upstream of the Church the resident Greater Spotted Woodpecker was hammering away, but the rise was sporadic and nothing was tempted to the F fly or Klinkhammer! Caught a moderate trout of 10-11 inch, still a bit skinny, on a search leader of a small tungsten beaded Hares Ear and Snipe and Purple on the dropper.
Fished upstream and back from Sandwath, nothing caught, but nice chats with two new members and a few more, although a few anglers were aloof!
Engaged with the river the following day at Warcop, met the only angler of the day, a new member from the Barrow syndicate ticket waters. The afternoon turned out glorious with Sandpipers, Oystercatchers and Dippers, along with numerous songbirds and Nuthatches in the trees.
A nice trout of 11.5 inch taken in the pool downstream of the bridge on a Pheasant Tail Nymph and one missed.
Moved upstream to the "park bend" where three good trout were rising. Tackled up with a Klinkhammer tied on a Partridge 20. Tempted a few snatches, but no joy! Not an easy stretch to wade or get a long line out -- beware of the silt.
