First visit of the season

Contributed by Tom Hird (19.04.2006)

I came up to the Eden for the Easter break and following a nice walk along the banks on Friday, I decided the day to fish would be the following day, Saturday. The weather and conditions looked perfect on the day, little to light breeze, warm and slightly overcast, the river looked slightly coloured, but was very clear with a good ripple in parts.

I fished from 11am on the Musgrave stretch, upstream of the bridge. No trout rose, although a hatch of olives (medium-I think) occurred around noon and lasted for a good hour and a half. I search fished for a further two hours, but to no avail, hooking only a couple of salmon parr to 5-6".

Whilst the fishing was a blank, the day was superb, good weather, spectacular scenery and a red squirrel playing amongst the trees upstream from the church.

Hopefully, further visits this season will give results on the trout front, along with pleasant nature watching.
