My
first trip of the season
Contributed by Ian Dandy (29.03.2003)
My first trip this year (travelling up from Leyland) on a beautiful
sunny day found the river low and very clear. Nevertheless I set off
in an optimistic mood upstream, especially since I noticed a good
number of fly hatching from the surface. Optimism had waned somewhat
as I had almost reached the Belah without even seeing evidence of
a single fish in the river! My spirits rose however, when I noticed
a good trout feeding in shallow water. Unfortunately I wasn't stealthy
enough, and he bolted to cover before I could get a cast over him.
Also tried further downstream towards Ploughlands, but no fish there
either. Never mind, things can only get better!!
By the way, I really appreciate the website, especially the River
reports. These make it easy for us non locals to keep up with the
latest info. If any more experienced members could give any advice
to a relative novice still waiting to catch his first grayling, I'd
be ever so grateful! |
